Sigh.

Setting: CM trying to be diligent and get a few things packed in the bedroom (AKA the coolest room in the house), and moving at slug speed.

K: Mom!  I’m going to be a big scary dinosaur and you have to be a good little horse and run away, OK?

CM: must…keep….packing…

K:  MOM, ok you be the big angry dinosaur and I’ll be a little horse.

CM: must…keep….packing…

K: alright, I’m going in my dinosaur cave (aka the closet) and you pretend to be scared when I come out.

CM: must…keep….packing…

K: you be a big grouchy bear and tell me that I can’t sleep here on your bed.

CM: must…keep….packing…

K: I’m a lion cub and you can be the mommy lion with claws.

CM: must…keep….packing…

K: can you build me a dinosaur house from the box?

CM: must…keep….packing…

K: is it time to play yet?

CM: must…keep….packing…

K: I know, I’ll play hide and seek under the sheets and you can find me.

CM: must…keep….packing…

K: can I play with that flamingo you are packing?

CM: must…keep….packing…

K: can I help?

CM: must…keep….packing…

K: what is that?  where is it going? why are you packing? why does it go in the box? why are you wrapping it?

CM: Sigh.

Random Updates

….we are this |   | close to being homeowners.  We had a few more last minute delays but they are not on our side of the fence, so to speak, and so now it is just a case of waiting for a few more repairs to the house and then we will be able to close it up and move in!  HALLELUJAH!  and it only took approximately 5 months!

….Since returning from her little jaunt up to Gmom’s, K has pretty much been sleeping through the nights, without her traditional 4-6 am wakeup daddy page to come in our room.  Coincidence?  Memorex?  I dunno but I’ll take what I can get!  Hoping the trend will continue but doubt this brief respite of reliable sleeping will survive the trauma of moving.

….K has officially been bottle-free since a couple weeks before our Vegas vacation.  And we received way less resistance than I expected, which tells me that (thankfully) she really was ready, and I don’t need to make a large deposit in her therapy fund for traumatically forcing her to relinquish her beloved bottles.  She still likes to have a wee cup o’ milk somewhere in the evening hours  (so she is still not staying dry all the way until morning) but I’m very proud of her.  And a little sad too.  All the last little shreds of babyhood life are rapidly being replaced with trappings of a busy, happy, child who is going to grow into an amazing adult in the blink of an eye, I’m sure.  Sniff.

….Speaking of moving, my work offices have finally been consolidated into our brand new downtown building.  I like having shiny new digs, but I admit, I will always fondly miss my old office in the decrepit, haunted, bug & rat infested building where I spent about 6 happy years.  I haven’t gotten all my personal little flamingo decos put back up, but other than that I’m pretty well moved in.  Our dept. was very fortunate in terms of space allocation and we also got a very large, wonderful workroom for all our tech. equipment.  It’s like Disneyland!  I just wish I weren’t so damn behind from the move, the vacation, and being shorthanded.  If only I could find the bottom of my inbox…..

….Our summer off-season TV obsession this year has been catching up on prior seasons of NCIS.  I wrote here about my originally conflicted relationship with this show and I’m happy to report that with successful counseling, we have reconciled.   Catching up on back seasons has made things a lot easier to follow.  Sometimes I still get a little lost on the plot lines, but fortunately FF patiently untangles me.  He’s the best hubby!  (and I still have a major girl-crush on Abby.)

….I am DREADING the fall semester and getting back to school.   Originally I intended to take two summer classes, and keep up my momentum and motivation, but with all the house stuff and other random unpredictability, I had to change plans and drop them (gee darn).  The break was much needed but it is going to be SO hard to get back into the swing, come mid-August.  Just thinking about it makes me want to crawl into a dark hole somewhere, plug my ears, and compulsively chant “LALALALALALALALA”.

Really.

This is what school makes me feel like :(

Boxes and Toilets

I made a promise to myself that I would not let the weekend go by without at least making SOME kind of start on the packing process.  So far, that progress consists of going to the Uhaul around the corner to buy my favorite, wonderful, most perfect packing tape* ever, and then packing 5 boxes (so far).  Ugh.  Moving sucks!

Today while running errands, K asked to use the potty twice.  Again with me the doubter, I wasn’t sure the 2nd time was for real but I took her anyway, and lo and behold, the kid POOPED.  This is major progress!  I called her a potty rockstar, and she seized on that phrase right away and has been parroting it back to anyone that will listen (hhaha sorry about that phone call, Uncle Bubba!).  However, the joy over today’s earlier perfect performance record was somewhat tempered when she pooed in her underwear after we got home (just as I was dozing off for my 20 minute micro nap–the kid has radar).  Oh well.

Along with cleaning house, starting the packing process, and herding pooping children around, I have been letting my inner werewolf out this weekend.  Yes, it’s so wonderful to be out of school for a few precious weeks and have a little time to geekify myself and blow up pixelated critters/zombies/insects.  It’s very therapeutic.

*I have a minor obsession with Uhaul’s awesome extra-strong, easily-tearable, paper-based packing tape.  FF thinks I am nuts but I refuse to pack boxes without this tape.

I did nothing today

dory…and it was everything I thought it could be.  (name that movie!)

Well, ok, so actually I did a tiny bit of homework, and I played with K, and took several small naps.  But categorically speaking, I really did nothing.  It was great.

So we got the call late on Friday that the bank has accepted our offer on the 1st house (the slightly nicer one that needed some windows and AC unit replaced).  So assuming no further catastrophic issues arise, we are thrilled but over the weekend we realized, OH CRAP that means we’re going to have to move again.  What’s with the human psyche that one can overlook the irritating details like moving, in the far more immediate goal of qualifying, finding, getting, etc a new house?  The thought of packing up boxes and going through things and oh.my.god.we.have.too.much.STUFF…..urg.  Totally uncool.  This will make move #4 in the last 6 years.  And let me tell you, we are STAYING PUT for awhile.

I have 2 papers, and 1 final left and I will be DONE with this semester.  Two weeks baby and I’m free.  For a whopping 1 week break, and then it is back into the grind with summer school.  Double urg.

The ‘carrot’ for surviving spring and summer school, as well as moving, will be a trip to Vegas to celebrate anniversary #6.   So we have to just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming.

House shopping update

houseshopping1Well, nothing super exciting to report here.  The bank seller on the 1st house we made an offer on is dragging ass and quibbling on their as-is addendum.  However, today we found out that another house down the same street just got listed a couple days ago, and it is the same basic floorplan as the house on which we’ve got the pending offer.   (the third one we’ve looked at with this same floorplan…it’s like the housing twilight zone.)

It is in pretty good shape, and has some nice laminate wood flooring in some sections of the house, (which I like except for in the den–carpet would definitely feel more “homey and livable” in that area).  Another bonus is that it is next to one of the HOA maintained common green spaces with a couple kid-climbing toys and shaded gazebos.

We went ahead and put the offer in right away on it, so now it’s just a case of waiting to see which of the two houses (if any) come through: 1st house (a little more deluxe in terms of upgraded fixtures/lighting/ceiling fans/yard watering systems) or the 2nd house (wood flooring/doesn’t need repairs or carpet replacement/next door to the mini park).

Either way, we pretty much just want to be done with this and for all the insanity to be over.

Having said that, WHO WANTS TO HELP US MOVE OVER MEMORIAL DAY??? (best case scenario, of course, on timing).  :D
